iOS 27 brings Apple Intelligence features to the Home app and upgrades HomeKit camera resolution to 4K.

Apple is introducing significant upgrades to the Home app in iOS 27, coinciding with plans to launch several new home products next week.

Key improvements focus on HomeKit Secure Video and notification displays, with most features powered by Apple Intelligence.

Three Smart Features for HomeKit Secure Video

HomeKit Secure Video is a secure cloud service from Apple included with the iCloud+ subscription. It works with compatible cameras, allowing users to record and view footage from anywhere and set up activity-based automations.

With iOS 27, the service gains three new features powered by Apple Intelligence. The first provides AI-generated video descriptions that explain events across a series of clips without the need to watch them.

The second feature enables searching within clips to easily locate specific footage, such as a package delivery. The third displays notable clips at the top of the app's search page, allowing users to quickly review important moments.

4K Streaming and Recording

Apple also added a fourth, non-AI feature that users had long requested: cameras supporting HomeKit Secure Video can now stream and record in 4K resolution, whereas the previous maximum was 1080p.

A single, real-time updating notification

The Home app also leverages Apple Intelligence to interpret related notifications as a single activity; consequently, the user receives one notification that updates as the activity progresses.

This feature appears via the "Reduce Notifications" option within a new "Apple Intelligence" section in the app's settings. It consolidates related activities—such as someone arriving and unlocking the door—into a single notification that updates in real time.

This prevents the app from displaying outdated information; instead of seven separate notifications, a single alert appears, stating, for example: "Lydia arrived. Checked the mail. Garage door closed."
